Home Science Students promote millet superfoods at Millet Carnival in Raipur

Raipur: Govt. Dudhadhari Bajrang Girls’ Post-Graduate Autonomous College, Raipur, home science students are conducting research on millets, also known as superfoods. These students have also set up food stalls at the Millet Carnival organized at Subhash Stadium here. The students said that they have been influenced by the millet mission initiated by the Chhattisgarh government to promote the cultivation and use of millets.
They have set up food stalls selling dishes made from millet such as kodo, kutki pasta, noodles, cakes, bread, and khurmi, and they are receiving good responses from the visitors. The Balushahi made from millets, Kodo-appam, Kodo-kutki chivda, and Bhelpuri made from millets are the main attractions here.

Due to the high nutritional value of millet compared to other foods, millet is gaining popularity and is known as a superfood. Visitors to food stalls are also curious and excited to learn about these dishes. Research students have reported that fast foods like chowmein, pasta, and Manchurian are in trend these days, which are easy and quick to make and people enjoy them, but they have a negative impact on our health. That is why we have also prepared dishes like pasta, noodles, bread, cake, and khurmi from kodo-kutki, so that the younger generation can understand the benefits of consuming millet.
Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh Government is making its best efforts to promote millet cultivation in the state. MoU has been signed with the Indian Institute of Millet Research, Hyderabad for the same. The objective is to double millet production under this initiative. The CSIDC has presented a plan to provide a 50 per cent subsidy on land, plant, and equipment in selected blocks to encourage millet-based industries.
