Jal Jeevan Mission: More than 16.54 lakh families got tap water connections

Raipur: The work of providing safe and adequate drinking water through free-of-cost individual household tap connections in the rural remote areas of the state is being done at a rapid pace under Jal Jeevan Mission. More than 16.54 lakh household tap connections have been provided in the state so far. Along with this arrangement of pure drinking water has been ensured in 43, 844 schools, 41,661 Anganwadis and 17, 278 Gram Panchayat Bhawans and Community Sub-Health Centers through tap water connections.

The mission aims to provide 55 litres of water per person per day to every rural household through functional household tap connections. Work is being done expeditiously to complete the works of the Jal Jeevan Mission in rural areas of the state within the stipulated time limit. Under this mission, in addition to household tap water connections, arrangements for providing drinking water are also being made in schools, sub-health centres and Anganwadi centres.

Jal Jeevan Mission Director Topeshwar Verma has instructed the officials of the Public Health Engineering Department to complete works under solar-based, retrofitting, multi village and single-village schemes at the earliest. He has also asked to ensure that the updated information on all the work in progress is entered into the IMIS portal.

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the maximum number of 1.43 lakh rural families have been provided with household tap water connections in Janjgir-Champa districts. This is followed by 1.20 lakh in Rajnandgaon district, 1.09 lakh in Raipur district, 1.01 lakh in Raigarh district, 98,485 in Dhamtari district, 82,436 in Balodabazar-Bhatapara, 79, 819 in Kawardha, 78,536, in Bemetara, 75, 522 in Bilaspur, 75, 059 in Durg, and 72, 632 in Mahasamund district.

Similarly, 62, 398 in Gariyaband, 18, 338 in Bijapur, 52, 760 in Kanker, 10, 016 in Narayanpur, 58, 005 in Mungeli, 60, 561 in Balod, 16, 993 in Dantewada, 36, 360 in Kondagaon, 47, 266 in Bastar, 37, 644 in Koriya, 16, 355 in Sukma, 17, 181 in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, 36, 579 in Surajpur, 43, 770 in Jashpur, 42, 375 in Korba, 36, 233 in Balrampur and 33, 918 in Surguja district.
