Suspected Low-Intensity Explosive Material Found in Rawabhata House; Probe Intensifies

Raipur: Raipur police, along with the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), Dog Squad and forensic experts, launched an investigation in Ward No. 13 of the Rawabhata area after suspected explosive materials were recovered from a house on Thursday morning. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Zone) Mayank Gurjar also visited the spot to assess the situation.
During the search, police seized a bag containing batteries, wires, an air gun, two bottles of chemicals and objects resembling detonators. Preliminary examination also revealed a small quantity of low-intensity explosive material, believed to be gunpowder commonly used in firecrackers.
Police said the materials were allegedly brought by a man identified as Vinay Dewangan, a resident of Birgaon. Sources said Dewangan is reportedly related to a Congress leader, though officials stated that his identity and affiliations would be verified only after the investigation progresses.
The house from where the materials were recovered belongs to Pushpa Sahu, a Mitanin (community health worker) residing in Ravi Shankar Shukla ward. According to police, Sahu’s family was acquainted with Dewangan. On Wednesday evening, Dewangan allegedly arrived at her residence carrying a bag and requested permission to leave it there temporarily.
Sahu later grew suspicious and informed Ward No. 13 councillor Ashwini Yadav over the phone. Yadav subsequently alerted the Khamtarai police station.
Acting on the information, senior police officials, along with BDS, Dog Squad and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams, rushed to the spot and inspected the bag. After finding suspicious materials, police initiated legal action and began further investigation.
Police are currently questioning local residents and scanning CCTV footage from the area. Officials said Dewangan would also be interrogated to ascertain the source and intended use of the seized materials.
