Raipur: Chhattisgarh Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot met former minister Kawasi Lakhma at Raipur Central Jail, where he is lodged in connection with the liquor scam case. After the meeting, Pilot accused the BJP-led central and state governments of misusing government agencies to suppress opposition voices.
“The double-engine government is focused on targeting opposition leaders. Anyone who opposes BJP’s ideology faces character assassination and institutional harassment. This is not an individual’s fight—wherever BJP misuses agencies, we will resist,” Pilot asserted.
Congress Leadership Meeting at Rajiv Bhavan
Following his jail visit, Pilot chaired a Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting at Rajiv Bhavan, where discussions reportedly centered on organizational restructuring, appointing working presidents, and revamping leadership. Notably, former Deputy CM T.S. Singh Deo was absent.
Senior leaders, including state in-charge Sachin Pilot, PCC Chief Deepak Baij, Leader of Opposition Dr. Charan Das Mahant, and former CM Bhupesh Baghel, attended the meeting.
Post-Election Review and Future Strategy
The meeting also analyzed Congress’s poor performance in recent elections, including the Assembly, Lok Sabha, municipal, and panchayat polls. The party lost power in the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections and suffered setbacks in local bodies, failing to secure key mayoral and panchayat positions.
Frustration among party workers has fueled demands for structural changes at state and district levels. The outcome of this meeting could shape the future strategy of Chhattisgarh Congress.
Rebel Leaders Seek Audience with Sachin Pilot
Dissident leaders, including independent councilor Akash Tiwari and senior Congress leader Kuldeep Juneja, attempted to meet Pilot. Juneja, who has been critical of the party’s state leadership, is reportedly facing disciplinary action.
Deputy CM Arun Sao Mocks Congress Meeting
Reacting to the Congress deliberations, Deputy CM Arun Sao mocked the meeting, stating, “Everyone knows what happens in their review meetings. Instead of understanding why the public rejected them, they will simply blame each other.”
What is the Political Affairs Committee (PAC)?
The PAC is a key decision-making body within the Congress, responsible for political strategy, election planning, and organizational restructuring. It plays a crucial role in shaping the party’s direction, especially after electoral setbacks.
