Arun Dev Gautam appointed as new DGP of Chhattisgarh

Arun Dev Gautam has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Chhattisgarh.


It is to be known that the tenure of Ashok Juneja, who was the DGP of Chhattisgarh, ended on Monday. He had got service extension twice earlier, but no new order has been issued so far this time.


Arun Dev, who belongs to a farmer family, is a resident of Abhaypur village in Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh. He was born on 2 July 1967. He has five brothers and one sister. He completed his eighth grade education from the government school in his village. Then he came to Prayagraj to his elder brother for further studies. After completing his tenth and twelfth from Rajkiya Inter College Allahabad, he did BA from Allahabad University with Arts and then MA in Political Science.
During his post-graduation in Allahabad, many of his friends cleared UPSC. Seeing this, Gautam decided that he too would pass this biggest competitive examination of the country. With this determination in his mind, he took admission in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. From there he obtained MPhil degree in International Law. After this he started doing PhD. After failing in the first attempt in the UPSC exam, Arun Dev Gautam put everything into his studies to achieve his goal. And in the second attempt, he got selected as an IPS.
Arun Dev Gautam became an IPS of the 1992 batch after clearing UPSC. He joined IPS service on 12 October 1992. He was first allotted Madhya Pradesh cadre. As a trainee IPS, he was posted in Jabalpur. Then he became CSP of Bilaspur. After Bilaspur, he became SDOP Kawardha and then Additional SP Bhopal. He also remained the Commandant of the 23rd Battalion of Madhya Pradesh Police. His first district as SP was Rajgarh.
