Bilaspur civic body seizes 500 kg banned single-use plastic

Raipur, October 17. The Bilaspur Municipal Corporation seized 500 kg of banned single-use plastic during a raid on two major shops in the city.

Bilaspur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Prakash Kumar Survey directed the health department to conduct a surprise inspection of commercial areas, including Shanichari Bazar, Gol Bazar, and Telipara. The enforcement team recovered large quantities of prohibited plastic items from Amit Plastics and Rajkumar Perfumes.

The civic body carried out the crackdown under the Chhattisgarh Plastic and Other Bio-Non-Degradable Material (Regulation of Use and Disposal) Rules, 2023, along with the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016. These statutory provisions penalize the sale, storage, and use of restricted plastic goods.

Municipal authorities appealed to traders and residents to avoid single-use plastic and switch to eco-friendly alternatives, such as cloth and jute bags. The administration stated that similar inspections will continue across commercial hubs and that strict penalties will be imposed on violators.
