Complex hip surgery performed on 73-year-old woman at Surajpur district hospital

Raipur, October 16. Specialist doctors and healthcare personnel at the Surajpur District Hospital have successfully performed a complex hip surgery on a 73-year-old woman. This medical achievement marks a significant improvement in local healthcare facilities, enabling patients with serious medical conditions to receive treatment at the district level.

Shrimati Rajkumari, a 73-year-old resident of Odgi, was suffering from bilateral hip degeneration due to advanced age. She visited the orthopaedics department at Surajpur District Hospital for treatment, where orthopaedic specialist Dr. Ajay Sahu conducted a preliminary examination and X-ray. The tests confirmed bilateral hip degeneration along with severe anaemia.

Hospital authorities admitted the patient to the surgical ward to arrange the necessary medical supplies and ensure proper care. Nursing staff administered treatment according to medical instructions. After her health improved and her condition stabilised, the anaesthesia department conducted the mandatory pre-operative examinations and scheduled the surgery.

Dr. Ajay Sahu stated that the case was medically challenging, but effective coordination among the medical teams ensured the successful operation. He also informed that a successful operation had been performed on 60-year-old Rajkumar, a resident of Surajpur, on October 12, 2026, with the support of the Chief Medical and Health Officer and the Civil Surgeon.

Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Prashant Singh stated that District Collector Rena Jamil has directed officials to make continuous efforts to improve medical facilities at the district hospital. Hospital systems are regularly reviewed to ensure that patients from remote areas receive appropriate treatment without having to travel unnecessarily to other cities. The administration is committed to expanding local healthcare services.

The coordinated efforts of specialist doctors, nursing staff, the anaesthesia department and operation theatre teams are enabling the hospital to handle complex surgical cases at the district level. This allows local patients to access advanced treatment closer to home, reducing the need to travel to other cities for major operations.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, initiatives such as the Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan continue to emphasise accessible and quality healthcare for citizens across Chhattisgarh.
