Chhattisgarh IPS officer Santosh Singh takes charge of Delhi Metro security

Raipur: Chhattisgarh-cadre IPS officer Santosh Singh, currently on central deputation, has been posted as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), entrusting him with the security of the Delhi Metro network.

A 2011-batch IPS officer, Singh has been given the responsibility of securing Delhi Metro’s lines and passengers in view of his experience in security management and administrative capabilities. The Delhi Metro is regarded as the lifeline of the national capital.

The Delhi Metro is a rapid transit system comprising 271 stations and connects Delhi with several adjoining cities in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. On September 17, the network recorded a single-day ridership of around 82.45 lakh passengers, setting a new record.

Experience as SP/SSP in nine districts

Known for mature and sensitive policing as well as experiments in community policing, Singh has served as SP/SSP in nine districts of Chhattisgarh — Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba, Rajnandgaon, Korea, Raigarh, Mahasamund, Narayanpur and Kondagaon. He has also served as Additional SP in Sukma and CSP in Durg.

Before his latest assignment, Singh was serving on central deputation as DIG, South Zone-2, in Hyderabad, where he was responsible for the security of industrial and strategic establishments as well as ports along the eastern coast in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and northern Karnataka.

Singh’s extensive field experience across several districts and his assignments involving the security of strategic installations are expected to be significant in his new responsibility of overseeing security arrangements at the Delhi Metro.
