Gangrel Dam 96.54% full, six radial gates opened as outflow rises to 17,990 cusecs

The water level in Gangrel Dam in Chhattisgarh’s Dhamtari district reached 348.42 metres on Sunday afternoon, with the reservoir filling to 96.54% of its live capacity, prompting authorities to keep six radial gates open to regulate the rising water inflow.

According to the Gangrel Reservoir Project (RSP) data recorded at 1 pm on September 13, the dam was receiving an inflow of 12,870 cusecs, while the total outflow stood higher at 17,990 cusecs.

Of the total discharge, 15,840 cusecs was being released through six radial gates. Another 1,650 cusecs was being discharged through the penstock, while 500 cusecs was being released through the high-level (HR) gate.

The reservoir’s live storage stood at 26.146 TMC (740.48 MCM).

The continued high storage level and regulated release indicate that the dam is being managed to maintain the reservoir level amid substantial inflows.
