Man arrested with 2 kg cannabis, ₹13,000 cash in Bhilai

Raipur: Bhilai Nagar Police and the Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit (ACCU) arrested a 21-year-old man on Thursday for allegedly possessing and selling cannabis (ganja) behind Jayanti Stadium in Sector 6.
Police seized 2.050 kg of cannabis worth around ₹1 lakh and ₹13,020 in cash from the accused. The total value of the seized items is estimated at ₹1.13 lakh.
The arrested accused has been identified as Himanshu Thakur, a resident of Chacha Chowk in Ruabandha, under the jurisdiction of Bhilai Nagar police station in Durg district.
Acting on a tip-off received on September 10 that a man was looking for buyers near the pond behind the stadium, a joint police team conducted a raid in the presence of independent witnesses.
During a search of Thakur’s bag, officers recovered cannabis packed in a plastic packet, along with cash allegedly earned from previous sales.
Police weighed and sealed the seized cannabis at the spot while following the required legal procedures. Thakur was formally arrested on September 10 and booked under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
He was produced before a local court, which sent him to judicial remand. Further investigation is underway.
The Durg Police have appealed to citizens to provide information about the illegal storage, transportation or sale of narcotics. Police assured that the identity of informers will be kept confidential.
