Raipur: City Kotwali police have arrested a 19-year-old youth and apprehended a juvenile following the murder of Dev Chaudhary alias Dhanna late on 28 August. Officers recovered two sharp-edged iron weapons used in the crime.
The incident took place around 10.30pm on Chandi Mandir Road near Sarthi Mohalla. Chaudhary was traveling on a motorcycle with his friends Jeet Sahu and Ratan Nirmalkar alias Dadu when the accused intercepted them.
An argument broke out over verbal abuse, leading to a violent clash. The primary accused, Komal Dhimar, along with his juvenile associate, attacked Chaudhary with sharp weapons, inflicting critical injuries to his chest, abdomen, and thighs.
Friends rushed Chaudhary to the Durg District Hospital in an e-rickshaw, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. City Kotwali police registered a case under sections 103(1), 296, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on a complaint lodged by Jeet Sahu on 29 August.
Police teams launched a search operation and took Dhimar, a resident of Mathpara, into custody within hours. Interrogation revealed the involvement of the juvenile. Both weapons were seized from their possession. Police formally arrested Dhimar and initiated legal proceedings regarding the juvenile after preparing his social background report.
Durg police urged citizens to report conflicts immediately rather than taking the law into their own hands, requesting prompt information regarding individuals carrying sharp weapons in public places.
