Waqf Board asks jeweller to clear Sadar Bazar property in 45 days

Raipur
The Chhattisgarh State Waqf Tribunal has ordered a commercial property in the city’s Sadar Bazar area to be cleared of encroachment within 45 days and handed over to the Waqf institution concerned.

A bench comprising Presiding Officer (District Judge) Kamlesh Kumar Jurri and members Hamid Hussain Khan and V K Rajput passed the unanimous order on 28 July 2026.

The property—comprising shop numbers 923, 924, 523, and 524 with a total area of 900 sq ft—belongs to the registered Waqf institution Anjuman-e-Saifee Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat, Raipur. Subhash Chandra Jain, proprietor of Suraj Jewellers, had illegally occupied the premises.

The Chhattisgarh State Waqf Board had earlier initiated action under Section 54 of the Waqf Act and issued orders on 16 May 2022 and 4 July 2022 directing Jain to vacate the property. The tribunal upheld these earlier orders in its latest ruling.

Waqf Board Chairman Dr Saleem Raj said the board is actively pursuing legal action against illegal occupants across the state to retrieve encroached properties.
