Ward Corporator Booked for Threatening RMC Official

Raipur

Police registered an FIR against Sandeep Sahu, corporator of Veer Savarkar Nagar (Ward No. 01), on Thursday for allegedly insulting, abusing and issuing death threats to a senior municipal officer following a dispute over payments to sanitation workers.

Rajeshwari Patel, Zone Commissioner for Zone 08 under the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC), lodged a formal complaint at the Kotwali police station.

According to the FIR, the incident occurred on 11 August at approximately 11.50 am while Patel was attending a training session inside the RMC headquarters. Sahu allegedly phoned Patel to demand the release of payments to a private sanitation contractor in his ward. When Patel explained that payments are based on actual worker attendance rather than the total sanctioned strength of 38 workers, Sahu allegedly lost his temper.

The complaint states that the councillor directed derogatory remarks against women at Patel and threatened to kill her.

Kotwali police filed a case under Sections 351(2), 351(3) and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Section 351(2) relates to criminal intimidation, Section 351(3) to criminal intimidation by threatening death or grievous hurt, and Section 79 to words, gestures or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman.

Sub-Inspector Devendra Singh has taken up the investigation.

Copies of the report have been sent to the Police Commissioner, District Collector and RMC Commissioner for administrative action.
