Raipur: Durg Police on 11 July arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly stabbing a young woman to death inside her rented room in Bhilai. Police said a one-sided romantic obsession was the motive behind the murder after the woman repeatedly refused to speak to him.
The accused, Lakeshwar Sahu alias Pintu, a resident of Sakri in Balodabazar district, was arrested after police recovered the sharp-edged weapon and the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime.
The victim, Khushi Sahu, was found lying in a pool of blood by her roommate around noon on 10 July inside their rented room under the Vaishali Nagar Police Station limits. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Police registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation using technical and forensic evidence. Based on the investigation, police traced and detained Lakeshwar Sahu, who allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Investigators said the accused travelled from Raipur to Bhilai carrying a sharp-edged weapon. To conceal his identity, he allegedly wore two shirts and a Bermuda under his trousers.
During an altercation, the accused allegedly strangled the victim before repeatedly attacking her with the weapon. After the murder, he reportedly threw his clothes and shoes into a river in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Police have also invoked Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act and produced the accused before a court. The Vaishali Nagar Police and the Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit solved the case within 24 hours. Durg Police urged citizens to report crimes against women immediately, warning of strict legal action against offenders.
