Three of Family Electrocuted While Fencing Farm in Bilaspur Village, Probe Underway

Raipur: A pall of gloom descended on Bhadam village in Bilaspur district after three members of the same family died of electrocution while fencing their agricultural field on Friday. Hundreds of villagers joined the funeral procession on Saturday to pay their last respects.

The deceased have been identified as Dasan Bai, her elder son Vivek Singraul (23) and younger son Satyavrat Singraul (14).

According to police, the family was installing a fence around their field using GI wire and nylon ropes to protect crops from stray cattle. During the work, electric current suddenly passed through the GI wire, electrocuting all three on the spot.

Dasan Bai’s husband, Sitaram Singraul, who works as a driver, returned home on Friday evening but could not find his family. After searching nearby, he reached the field where he found the bodies lying near the fence. He immediately alerted local residents, who gathered at the spot.

A team from Kota Police reached the scene and launched an investigation. As it was already night, the post-mortem examinations could not be conducted on Friday. The procedures were completed on Saturday, after which the bodies were handed over to the family for the last rites.

The preliminary police investigation confirmed electrocution as the cause of death. However, the exact source of the current is yet to be determined. Investigators suspect that a nearby power line or a technical fault may have caused electricity to leak into the fencing wire.

Officials from the Electricity Department have joined the investigation. Authorities said strict legal action will be taken if the probe establishes negligence on the part of any individual.
