Durg Clerk Caught Red-Handed Taking ₹10,000 Bribe to Clear GPF Withdrawal

RAIPUR: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials caught an assistant grade-2 clerk red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 in Durg district on July 2, 2026.

The accused has been identified as Shiv Kumar Thakur, an assistant grade-2 clerk posted at the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Electrical/Mechanical) and R Sub-Division, Durg.

Nand Kumar Kamde, a resident of Mohlai village in Durg who works as a camp attender in the same office, lodged a complaint with the ACB in Raipur. Kamde had submitted an application to partially withdraw ₹5 lakh from his General Provident Fund (GPF) account.

When he approached Thakur to process the withdrawal, the clerk allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹10,000 to clear the amount. The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, requested the ACB to catch the accused red-handed.

After verifying the complaint, the ACB team laid a trap on Thursday and arrested Thakur at the moment he accepted the marked currency notes from the complainant.

The bureau is taking further legal action against the accused under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
