Durg Mining Belt Bribery Case: ACB Traps Assistant Mining Officer Accepting ₹50,000 Bribe from Complainant

Durg, January 28, 2026 — The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) laid a trap on Wednesday and caught Assistant Mining Officer Rajesh Sahu red-handed while accepting a ₹50,000 bribe from the complainant Shrikant Vaishnav, a resident of village Parsada, Durg district. The bribe was allegedly demanded to facilitate the installation of a transformer on agricultural land registered in the name of the complainant’s father.

Incident Details:

Shrikant Vaishnav had lodged a complaint with ACB Durg, stating that a transformer was installed on his father’s agricultural land in village Parsada by the Electricity Department (CSPDL), for which excess payment was taken. Following a complaint to the Electricity Department, an inspection was conducted by Assistant Mining Officer Rajesh Sahu.

During the inspection, Sahu allegedly demanded a ₹80,000 bribe in the name of “installing the transformer”, of which ₹30,000 was taken in cash in advance. Although Vaishnav refused to pay further, he approached ACB to have the officer trapped. After verification of the complaint, the ACB organized a trap operation on January 28, 2026, during which Sahu was caught accepting another ₹50,000 bribe from the complainant.

Legal Action

The accused Rajesh Sahu has been arrested, and proceedings have been initiated under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended by the 2018 Act. Further investigation is underway.
