Eight Maoists active in Jharkhand, including five women cadres, surrendered before the Bijapur police on Wednesday. The surrendered insurgents cumulatively carried a reward of ₹49 lakh on their heads.
The operation was conducted in coordination with the Jharkhand Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Police officials attributed the surrender to the Chhattisgarh government’s Naxal Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy, growing disillusionment with the violent ideology of the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit, and continuous security operations in the region.
Among those who laid down arms are Divisional Committee Member (DVCM) Ashwin alias Lachhu (30) from Bijapur, and Saranda Sub-Divisional Committee Members Ranga alias Sohan (30) from Bijapur and Doba Madvi alias Rahat (25) from Narayanpur. Each carried a bounty of ₹8 lakh.
Four Area Committee Members—Phagni Poyam alias Rajni (28), Suraj Munni Champia alias Subani (25), Hidme Kadti alias Rita (27), all from Bijapur, and Budhri Kunjam alias Anusha (25) from Sukma—surrendered alongside Party Member Salmi Champia alias Jilani (20). Each of these five cadres carried a reward of ₹5 lakh.
The district administration and police will extend immediate financial assistance, skill training, housing facilities, and educational support to the former cadres as per the state rehabilitation policy.
