Gwalior Gets Direct Train to Bengaluru : To boost connectivity and strengthen ties between Gwalior and South India

A new direct train service, the Gwalior–SMVT Bengaluru Express, was flagged off today, aiming to boost connectivity and strengthen ties between Gwalior and South India. The inaugural run saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The Union Railway Minister addressed the public via video conferencing. He conveyed his best wishes and said this train service will greatly benefit passengers from Gwalior, Guna, Shivpuri, and Bhopal who frequently travel to Bengaluru. Vaishnaw highlighted the significant progress in strengthening railway infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He mentioned that railway projects worth ₹24,000 crore were approved for the state last year, bringing substantial changes to Madhya Pradesh’s railway map. He also spoke about preparations for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh at Ujjain, promising arrangements similar to those at the Prayagraj Kumbh.
Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar thanked the Railway Minister and other dignitaries for their continuous efforts toward Gwalior’s and the state’s development.
Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia noted that the new rail service, running via Shivpuri and Guna to Bengaluru, will greatly benefit the local population. It will improve connectivity and create new employment opportunities. Scindia also touched upon the historical significance of Gwalior Railway Station as a key hub since the Scindia royal era. He added that the redevelopment of Gwalior Station, along with expressway and other infrastructure projects, is underway, aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of making Gwalior a modern city.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, in his virtual address, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their focus on Madhya Pradesh’s development. He stressed the strategic importance of Gwalior city and its railway station. Dr. Yadav said that Bengaluru is a major IT hub, employing many young people from Gwalior, Guna, and Shivpuri. This new train service will be beneficial for them and will accelerate the economic and social development of Gwalior and Madhya Pradesh.
Deepak Kumar Sinha, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Jhansi, welcomed all dignitaries, officials, and invitees, acknowledging the contributions of various departments and staff for the event’s success.
