Women to Lead as Mayors in 5 Municipal Corporations, Including Raipur, 18 Seats Reserved for Women in 54 Municipalities

The mayoral reservation process for Chhattisgarh’s urban bodies has been finalized. The lottery-based selection was conducted at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium, located on the Science College campus in Raipur.


Out of the 14 municipal corporations in the state, 5 will have women mayors this time, including Raipur, where the mayoral seat is reserved for a woman from the General category. In 54 municipalities, 18 seats have been reserved for women, distributed as follows: 3 for Scheduled Castes (SC), 2 for Scheduled Tribes (ST), 4 for Other Backward Classes (OBC), and 9 for the General category.


\In addition, reservations for the 124 Nagar Panchayats were announced:
16 seats for SC candidates, with 5 reserved for women.
20 seats for ST candidates, with 7 reserved for women.
26 seats for OBC candidates, with 9 reserved for women.
62 seats for General candidates, with 20 reserved for women.
Leader of Opposition Meenal Choubey, expressing satisfaction with the process, remarked, “If you genuinely desire something, the universe works to fulfill it.”
The entire reservation process, covering 192 urban bodies, was conducted transparently through a lottery system.
