Lawyer Arrested from Raipur in Shah Rukh Khan Threat Case, Produced in Court
Raipur | Mumbai police have arrested lawyer Faizan Khan from Raipur for allegedly making death threats to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan over the phone. Khan has been produced in the court in Raipur.
The accused did not appear at Bandra Police Station despite being given a notice. On Tuesday, he will be presented in Raipur Court. Earlier, the lawyer claimed that his phone had been lost and alleged that he was being framed.
The lawyer had objected to a dialogue in a Shah Rukh Khan film, in which Khan said, “Cook and eat the deer,” expressing enjoyment in hunting deer. Faizan had filed a complaint about this in Mumbai and Jodhpur, stating that the Bishnoi community reveres deer, and this dialogue hurt their sentiments.
During questioning, Faizan allegedly did not cooperate with the Bandra police.
Faizan Khan was issued a notice by Mumbai police on November 7, instructing him to appear at Bandra Police Station on November 11 for questioning regarding the threatening call and the demand for 50 lakh rupees. However, Faizan did not appear on November 11, leading to his arrest today, November 12, in Raipur. Arrangements are being made to take him to Mumbai on transit remand.
The case began with a phone call to Bandra Police Station in Mumbai, where an unknown caller threatened to kill Shah Rukh Khan if he was not paid 50 lakh rupees. This prompted swift action by Mumbai police, with three officers traveling to Raipur on November 6. After tracking a mobile SIM in the Pandri area, they visited Faizan’s residence for questioning about the threatening call, which lasted around two hours.
During questioning, Faizan stated that he lost his mobile phone on November 2 and reported it missing to the Khamhardih Police Station on November 4. The threatening call to Bandra Police was made on November 5. After presenting a copy of his police report, Faizan was initially released, but he was called back for further questioning in Mumbai.
According to Faizan Khan, he had seen a reel of Anjaam, Shah Rukh Khan’s 1994 film, where Khan, holding a gun, mentions hunting a deer and tells his servant to cook it. A female character then questions why he kills innocent animals, to which Khan responds, saying he enjoys it.
Faizan’s complaint about Anjaam alleged that Shah Rukh Khan, as a person from a specific religion, attempted to incite communal tension by disrespecting the Bishnoi community, who revere deer. He filed complaints with the Mathania Police Station in Jodhpur and the Bandra Police in Mumbai in October, citing concerns over communal discord.
Faizan claims his SIM was used in the threatening call and suspects he is being framed in a conspiracy. He reported the matter to Raipur SSP Santosh Singh, expressing concerns for his family’s safety and his own.
