Raipur has achieved 12th place in the Swachh Vayu Survekshan 2024 under Category Two, which includes cities with a population between 3 lakh and 10 lakh. The results of the survey, conducted by the Central government, were announced on Saturday. Raipur Municipal Commissioner Abinash Mishra highlighted the city’s significant improvement from last year, moving up from 16th place in a survey of 130 major cities.
Raipur aimed to score 177.5 points in this year’s survey. After a third-party verification, the Central government awarded the city the exact score it targeted. Expressing satisfaction with the outcome, Commissioner Mishra congratulated the citizens for their contributions to the city’s success.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change released the results during National Clean Air Day. The survey placed Raipur in 12th position among 130 cities, marking a remarkable leap from its previous ranking. Raipur was also placed among cities with a population exceeding 10 lakh in the broader survey categories.
Commissioner Mishra commended the continuous efforts of Raipur Municipal Corporation’s officials and staff, stating that their dedication played a key role in the city’s progress. “Our preparation for the 2024 Clean Air Survey was focused on achieving 177.5 points, and the Central government’s third-party verification confirmed our success. This is a pleasing result for the city,” he said.
The Clean Air Survey 2024 assessed several factors, including biomass and municipal waste burning, road dust, construction and demolition waste, vehicle pollution, industrial emissions, and public awareness activities. Raipur also improved in PM10 concentration levels, an essential parameter in air quality monitoring.
