UNICEF has played a pivotal role in this initiative, designing a month-long campaign aimed at raising awareness around menstruation. The campaign focuses on breaking myths, ending taboos, and promoting male involvement in menstrual hygiene practices.

An innovative “Red-Dot Challenge” was spearheaded by UNICEF, engaging 3 lakh youth and 100+ CSOs across Chhattisgarh. Participants painted a red dot on their hands, symbolizing their commitment to ensuring a period-friendly society.

Job Zachariah, Chief of UNICEF in Chhattisgarh, emphasized the critical role men can play in shaping hygienic behaviors at home and within the community. “Menstrual hygiene is not only linked to health but also affects education, nutrition, and gender issues within the community,” he stated.

The campaign has garnered widespread support from district collectors, SPs, and people’s representatives from various parts of the state. Youth organizations such as NSS, NYKS, and Bharat Scouts and Guides have effectively leveraged this campaign, reaching more than 5 lakh families statewide.

Additionally, the State Rural Livelihood Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission, and the Women and Child Development Department have utilized this campaign to connect with the women changemakers of Chhattisgarh.

Given the high prevalence of anemia in the state, there is a pressing need for comprehensive community participation to drive social and behavioral change regarding menstruation.

As part of these efforts, artist groups from Bastar will conduct an intense seven-day campaign, #ART4Change, to engage and educate the community through creative expression.
