Gandhi, in her address, highlighted the region’s abundant natural resources and attributed its strength to the hard work of the diligent people. She paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi for his leadership during the independence movement, underscoring the importance of unity in achieving freedom. Emphasizing the significance of the current freedom enjoyed by the nation, Gandhi stressed the sacrifices made by citizens and the Constitution’s provision of rights to all, including the right to vote. She urged voters to prioritize the nation’s current state and the daily struggles faced by its people while casting their votes.
Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel echoed Gandhi’s sentiments, noting significant changes visible in Chhattisgarh and the country. He observed a shift towards the BJP following the first phase of polling but expressed confidence in Priyanka Gandhi’s nationwide campaign, signaling a desire for change across the country. Baghel criticized the Modi government’s tenure, accusing it of empty promises and rhetoric while contrasting it with Congress’s commitment to addressing farmers’ issues, providing subsidized rice, and creating job opportunities. He condemned BJP leaders’ statements about amending the Constitution and warned against the potential erosion of people’s rights.
Congress Party’s state in-charge Sachin Pilot also addressed the gathering, acknowledging a wave of change sweeping through Chhattisgarh and the nation. He highlighted the substantial voter turnout during the first phase of polling as indicative of a setback for the BJP. Pilot criticized the Modi government’s track record, alleging hollow promises and contrasting it with Congress’s commitment to welfare measures and job creation. He cautioned against potential constitutional amendments under a BJP majority government, emphasizing the need to safeguard citizens’ rights and cultural heritage.
Baghel further criticized the BJP government for discontinuing several welfare schemes initiated during the Congress rule, alleging favoritism towards industrialists over ordinary citizens and exacerbation of inflation, making essential commodities unaffordable for many.
The rallies aimed to galvanize support for the Congress party, emphasizing its commitment to addressing pressing issues and protecting citizens’ rights in Chhattisgarh and beyond.
