Jai Ambe Women Self-Help Group creates handmade rakhis, receiving good response from public
Raipur: The National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) is actively working towards the empowerment of women through Self-Help Groups (SHGs), with a focus on making them self-reliant. As a significant step in this endeavour, women belonging to SHGs are being engaged in crafting handmade “rakhis” at the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Industrial Park in Harinbhatta village of Baloda Bazar. These handmade rakhis are now available for purchase at all Janpad offices, as well as at C-Mart located in the district headquarters.
The women associated with Jai Ambe Women Self-Help Group are making these Rakhis. Parvati Sahu, the president of this women’s group, enthusiastically stated that their efforts have resulted in sales exceeding Rs 20,000 thus far. The group comprises a total of 11 women, each contributing to the production process. She also highlighted that these handmade rakhis have been very well-received, garnering significant appreciation from the public.
One of the group’s members, Reena, provided insight into the pricing of the rakhis she personally creates, indicating a range between Rs 5 to Rs 20. It’s heartening to see the positive response these rakhis have garnered. Namrata Jain, the Zila Panchayat CEO, appealed to the public to purchase these handcrafted rakhis. She added that such initiatives hold the potential to significantly enhance employment opportunities and income for the women belonging to self-help groups.
