Under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Chakrawal, an innovative initiative of Swabhiman Thali was launched on Republic Day in CU.

Bilaspur. On January 26, 2023, the 74th Republic Day celebration was held at Guru Ghasidas University (Central University), near the administrative building, where honourable vice chancellor, professor Alok Kumar Chakrawal, unfurled the national flag.
On the auspicious occasion of Republic Day, Dr Atul Kothari, National Secretary of Shiksha Sanskriti Uthan Nyas, New Delhi, and Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alok Kumar Chakrawal, inaugurated the Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya Swabhiman Thali (GST) with the unfastening of lace and breaking of the auspicious coconut at 10.30 a.m. On this occasion, former Vice-Chancellor of Saurashtra University, Professor Nilambari Dave, Shri Suresh Gupta, Shri Om Sharma, Registrar of the University, Prof. Manish Kumar Srivastava, Prof. PK Bajpai, and the NSS Coordinator, Dr Dilip Jha, were among those present.
In the function organised on this occasion, Dr Atul Kothari said that the university initiative is commendable. “This is per our Indian culture and tradition,” he said. The university has made the Swabhiman Thali concept a reality. It is an important step taken in the direction of making the students self-reliant.
Professor Alok Kumar Chakrawal presided over the programme and stated that it was a dream realised today in the form of GGV Swabhiman Thali (GST) from the hands of Dr Atul Kothari. He thanked the main coordinators, administrators, and donors of this scheme. Initially, GST Thali is for 200 needy students; the number will increase with time and future arrangements. We aim to make Swabhiman Thali available to all students in the future.
On this occasion, Professor Nilambari Dave congratulated the university and said that the initiative was a real blessing from Maa Annapurna. She wished that the Akshaya Patra of Swabhiman Thali should never be empty. On this occasion, the volunteers of the National Service Scheme presented a patriotic dance. At the end of the program, the registrar, Prof. Manish Kumar Srivastava, gave a vote of thanks.
200 plates per day in the first phase
GST Thali, in its first phase, will benefit 200 needy students. The GST Thali will include nutritious food such as rice, pulses, vegetables, pickles, and salads. Volunteers from the university’s National Service Scheme will play a role in this scheme, which was launched in support of the idea of “Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat.”
The purpose of Swabhiman Thali
To fulfil its important responsibility as Chhattisgarh’s only central university, this scheme was launched in response to local needs, with a focus on students’ interests and overall development. The “Guru Ghasidas Swabhiman Thali” will be made available in the university for only Rs. 10 to students from remote areas under this scheme. Apart from being easily affordable, this meal will also provide adequate nutrition to the students. The menu has been prepared accordingly. The purpose of this enterprise is to awaken the spirit of social service and humanity.
The scheme will be operated with the help of donors.

Republic Day Celebrations Take Place
The 74th Republic Day celebration was held on university grounds near the administrative building, where honourable vice chancellor Professor Alok Kumar Chakrawal unfurled the national flag. Professor Nilambari Dave, former Vice-Chancellor of Saurashtra University, Suresh Gupta, Om Sharma, the Registrar, Prof. Manish Kumar Srivastava, and the Dean of Student Welfare, Prof. MN Tripathi, were all present. The vice chancellor saluted the march-past of NCC and NSS cadets and security guards.

In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Alok Kumar Chakrawal congratulated all those present on the 74th Republic Day and noted the auspicious coincidence of Republic Day, Vasant Panchami, and the fifth day of Gupta Nau Ratri all falling on the same day. He recalled the great freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu’s contribution to the freedom movement, saying that we achieved freedom through the great sacrifices of innumerable freedom fighters, which must not be forgotten.

Prof. Chakrawal stated that with dedication and hard work, any large and difficult task can be completed. The university’s teachers, officers, employees, and students are working around the clock to make the university the best in the country. Motivating the university’s faculty, staff, and students, he stated that if we resolve to work every day with the determination to do better than yesterday, we will be the best university in the country very soon.
The winners of the speech and writing competitions held in honour of Republic Day were also announced. At the end of the program, prasad was distributed to all on behalf of the university.
