Police Arrest 7 for ₹50 Lakh Theft in Raipur; ₹49.50 Lakh Recovered

Raipur: In a major breakthrough, police on Monday arrested seven accused, including a company driver, for allegedly stealing ₹50 lakh cash from a vehicle in Raipur. The incident took place on April 25, 2026, and was planned as a pre-meditated conspiracy, officials said.

The complainant, company accountant Bhupendra Dewangan, lodged a report at Khamhardih Police Station. He stated that he and driver Krishna Sahu were transporting cash from Kachna to Devpuri in a MG Windsor vehicle (CG 04 QG 6633) when they halted due to banks being closed.

During the journey, Sahu stopped the vehicle near the Bharat Mata statue, Gitanjali Nagar at around 3:15 pm, claiming he needed to buy tobacco. As soon as Dewangan stepped out, Sahu fled with the cash, switched off his mobile phone, and stopped responding to calls.

Following the complaint, Deputy Commissioners Mayank Gurjar (North Zone) and Smritik Rajnala (Crime & Cyber) ordered an immediate investigation. A joint team led by SHO Mansi Nanabhau Sakore (Khamhardih) and SHO Amit Kosima (Mujgahan) launched a coordinated search operation.

Police examined CCTV footage, tracked vehicle movement routes, and used technical surveillance to trace the accused. During interrogation, Krishna Sahu confessed to the crime and revealed that he had conspired with family members and associates to execute the theft and distribute the money.
