Raipur
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain and thunderstorm activity at isolated locations in Chhattisgarh on May 11 due to the impact of several active weather systems over different parts of the country. The department has also cautioned about the possibility of lightning and strong winds in some regions of the state.
As per the latest meteorological bulletin, a western disturbance is positioned near 56°E longitude and 32°N latitude. In addition, an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the southern region of central Madhya Pradesh, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
Weather experts said a trough line is running from Rajasthan to Gangetic West Bengal through Chhattisgarh at an altitude of 0.9 km above mean sea level. Another trough in the middle and upper atmospheric levels stretches from northeast Bihar to the central coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh via Chhattisgarh at a height of around 7.6 km.
An upper air cyclonic circulation is also active over the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Sri Lanka, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over the southwest Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours.
The IMD said one or two places in the state may receive light showers or thundershowers on Sunday. Isolated areas are also likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning.
The weather department further stated that maximum temperatures across the state are expected to rise gradually in the coming days, even as sporadic pre-monsoon weather activity continues.
