Heatwave alert in Chhattisgarh, mercury touches 44°C in Rajnandgaon

Chhattisgarh faces an intense heatwave with temperatures expected to rise further over the next three days. The meteorological department issued an advisory urging residents to stay hydrated as the mercury climbed to 44°C in Rajnandgaon.
Temperatures will climb by 2°C to 3°C in the next 72 hours before stabilizing for two days. Heatwave conditions remain likely across central regions of the state between 24 April and 27 April.
Two active weather systems currently influence the state. A trough line stretches from eastern Vidarbha to the Comorin area, crossing Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. A second trough extends from the north-eastern part of Bangladesh to northern Odisha.
The capital city, Raipur, anticipates heatwave conditions today. Maximum and minimum temperatures will likely hover around 44°C and 28°C, respectively.
Rajnandgaon recorded the highest temperature at 44°C, while Ambikapur registered the lowest at 19.6°C. The state will experience dry weather over the next 24 hours.
