FIR Filed Against ‘Fake’ Cardiologist, Apollo Hospital in Ex-Speaker’s Death Case

Chhattisgarh
Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against a ‘fake’ cardiologist, Dr Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav (also known as Narendra John Camm), and the management of Apollo Hospital, Bilaspur, in connection with the death of former Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Speaker, Pt Rajendra Prasad Shukla.
Pt Rajendra Prasad Shukla passed away while undergoing treatment at the private hospital in 2006. The FIR was filed by the Sarkanda police of Bilaspur district against Dr Yadav and the hospital under Sections 420, 465, 466, 468, 471, 304, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
“We filed the FIR against the doctor and the hospital under various sections of the IPC for negligence in connection with the death of the former Speaker on Saturday evening. We are investigating the case further,” said Sarkanda Station House Officer (SHO) Nilesh Pandey.
The report also mentions the case of seven patients who died following heart surgeries at a Mission Hospital in Damoh. The same doctor, who allegedly falsely claimed to be a cardiologist, was arrested in that case. It is alleged that 7–8 patients died at a private hospital in Bilaspur due to this doctor, including veteran Congress leader Pt Rajendra Prasad Shukla.
Dr Pradeep Shukla, son of the late Pt Rajendra Prasad Shukla, and a resident of Mungeli Naka, Bilaspur, filed a complaint at the Sarkanda police station. In his complaint, he stated that his father, the late Pt Rajendra Prasad Shukla, former Speaker and Member of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, was admitted to Apollo Hospital Bilaspur on 2 August 2006, due to breathing difficulties.
According to the complaint, Dr Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav performed angiography and angioplasty on Pt Shukla. Within two hours of the operation, Pt Shukla’s condition deteriorated, and he was admitted to the ICU.
Dr Yadav and the Apollo management treated Pt Shukla in the ICU for 18 days, but he died. It is alleged that the death was covered up at the time, and the hospital management received ₹20 lakh from the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly for his treatment expenses.
News reports indicate that Dr Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, currently known as Dr Narendra John Camm, was working as a cardiologist at Mission Hospital in Damoh, where several patients died following angioplasty procedures. A case has been registered in Damoh district in this connection, and Dr Yadav’s cardiology degree has been found to be fake. Dr Yadav has been arrested.
The investigation into the complaint revealed that Dr Yadav’s degree was fake, and no documents of registration with the Indian Medical Council or the Chhattisgarh Medical Council have been found so far. It is alleged that Apollo management appointed Dr Yadav as a cardiologist in Bilaspur without proper verification, jeopardizing the lives of Pt Rajendra Prasad Shukla and many other patients with heart-related ailments. The complaint alleges this is not a case of medical negligence but of culpable homicide.
Therefore, a case has been registered against Dr Yadav and the hospital management, and an investigation has been initiated.
