Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Lakshmi Verma extended greetings to the people of Chhattisgarh on the festival of Hartalika Teej, describing it as a celebration of devotion, dedication, and family values.
Verma said the festival reflects the strength, devotion, and resolve of women. Referring to Hindu traditions, she noted that Goddess Parvati performed penance to marry Lord Shiva, making the occasion a symbol of faith and marital harmony. She prayed for peace, happiness, and prosperity across the state.
Highlighting the initiatives of the Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai-led state government, Verma said measures taken for women empowerment follow the priorities set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Under the Mahtari Vandan Yojana, eligible married women in the state receive direct financial assistance of ₹1,000 per month (₹12,000 annually) in their bank accounts through direct benefit transfer. Over 70 lakh women benefit from the scheme.
Women are also connected to livelihood activities, skill training, and financial resources through the National Rural Livelihood Mission (Bihan) and Self-Help Groups. The government has taken steps to help women achieve an annual income exceeding ₹1 lakh, aiding their growth as local entrepreneurs. Additionally, child development and nutrition campaigns have been expanded to provide economic relief and improve health outcomes for families.
