Naxalite attack in Chhattisgarh: 2 jawans martyred, 4 injured in Bijapur IED Blast

Two STF jawans were martyred and four injured after being hit by an IED planted by Naxalites in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. The jawans were returning from an anti-Naxal operation when the incident occurred near Tarrem in Naxal-hit Bijapur district.

Based on intelligence reports indicating the presence of a large number of Naxalites in the Darbha division near the borders of Bijapur, Sukma, and Dantewada districts, a joint team comprising STF, DRG, CoBRA, and CRPF was dispatched for the operation.

The martyred STF Jawans are Constables Bharat Sahu and Satyer Singh Kange. The injured jawans include Purushottam Nag, Komal Yadav, Siyaram Sori, and Sanjay Kumar. They will be airlifted from the district hospital to Raipur.On Wednesday, security forces killed 12 Naxalites in an encounter on the Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra border in Gadchirouli. The bodies of the slain Naxalites were recovered, along with weapons and other items. The encounter lasted approximately six hours.

In the same encounter, two jawans, including a sub-inspector, were injured. The injured sub-inspector, Satish Patil, from Maharashtra’s C-60 Force, sustained a bullet wound in his left shoulder and was airlifted from Banda in Kanker to Gadchiroli.

Since January, 150 Naxalites have been killed in various encounters with security forces in Chhattisgarh. Among them, 136 Maoists were killed in the Bastar division.On June 15, eight Naxalites were killed in an encounter in Narayanpur’s Abujhmad area, near the Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra border. One STF soldier, Nitish Ekka, was martyred in this operation.In another incident, Naxalites attacked a security camp in Narayanpur district’s Irkabatti on June 5, firing four BGLs, one of which exploded on the spot. The camp’s soldiers were unharmed, and a retaliatory operation was launched to search the area.On April 29, 10 Naxalites, including three female Maoists, were killed in an encounter in Narayanpur’s Abujhmad area. The operation recovered a significant cache of weapons and explosives, including an AK-47.

In a major operation on April 15 in Kanker’s Maad area, security forces killed 29 Naxalites, including Naxal leader Shankar Rao. Three BSF soldiers, including Inspector Ramesh Chaudhary, were injured during the encounter, which resulted in the recovery of five AK-47 rifles.On February 25, CAF soldier Ram Ashish Yadav was martyred after an IED blast in Bijapur’s Bechapal area. In another February incident, Naxalites attacked a newly established police camp in Tekalgudam, resulting in the martyrdom of three soldiers and the deaths of two Naxalites.
