Bilaspur Police Launch a Successful Campaign Against Illegal Drugs

Bilaspur. In a prompt and decisive move, the Bilaspur Police launched an action and awareness campaign against drugs, narcotics, and illegal intoxication, creating a stir in the region. Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Singh, the police have arrested 635 persons under the Excise Act, of whom 124 were sent to jail (72 in Excise cases and 52 in NDPS cases).
The campaign, launched on February 1, 2023, has yielded impressive results in just one month, with 1053 litres of illicit liquor and illegal drugs worth Rs 28.3 lakh being seized. The police also prosecuted 207 individuals for driving under the influence by seizing their vehicles and bringing them before the court, where each got fined 10,000 rupees.

Under the awareness programme, the police held meetings in 86 schools and colleges and 204 public places to raise awareness about the dangers of illegal drugs. In addition, the police charged 338 people under Excise Act 36F for consuming alcohol in public places and seized 328 pieces of flavouring tobacco, hookah, and pipe coal under the Kotpa Act.
The police have also made significant seizures of illicit drugs, including 132.5 kg of Ganja, 2096 injections, 294 syrups, 104 tablets, a 1945 ampul, 15 gm of Charas, and 240 tubes of solution. In addition, 72 persons were arrested in cases under the Excise Act 34(2), and 52 persons in 40 cases under the NDPS Act.

The Inspector General of Police Bilaspur, B.N. Meena, launched the Campaign Nijat against illegal drugs on January 2, 2023, in the presence of Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Singh. The campaign has been a resounding success, thanks to the efforts of the Additional Superintendent of Police, City, Rajendra Jaiswal, and Additional Superintendent of Police, Rural, Rahul Dev Sharma.
The Bilaspur Police have set an example for others to follow in their fight against illegal drugs and intoxicants. The police have made it clear that they will not tolerate any such activities in their jurisdiction and will take swift and decisive action against anyone involved in such illegal activities. The success of this campaign is a testament to their determination and commitment to creating a drug-free society.
