On the evening of Dhanteras, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel reached the oldest market of the capital to shop; he bought earthen lamps, pots, clay idols of Ganesh, Lakshmi and Saraswati, idols of Gwalin from local potters. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel reached the market in the evening along with MLA Vikas Upadhyay, Kuldeep Juneja, Mayor Ejaz Dhebar and other leaders. Local shopkeepers welcomed the Chief Minister with cloves and cardamom at Gol Bazar.

Later the Chief Minister purchased pottery, idols etc. After that, the Chief Minister bought Diwali Sweets, Orange Barfi, Milk Cake and Phalli Grain Grinder from Gujarati Sweets Bhandar. From there, the Chief Minister reached the cracker market of Hind Sporting Ground.

There he bought firecrackers worth about one thousand rupees. On this occasion, the Chief Minister appealed to the people to buy Chhattisgarhia products. The Chief Minister said that our Kumbhakar brothers prepare the earthen lamps with great dedication and hard work.

During the shopping, many shopkeepers did not want to take money from the CM. The Chief Minister also made it clear that he would not buy any goods without giving money. Pramin Bai, a shopkeeper, said, you are the Khevaiya of the state, you are the guardian; how can we take money from you? But the CM paid for all the items. Although he jokingly said that you are not charging high rates, are you? Don’t take too much money. Traders Rashid Iqbal Bablesh and Aseemuddin Pappu presented a brass lamp to the Chief Minister. They remained in the round market for about forty minutes.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel completed the ritual of tying paddy jhalar at the door of his residence on Dhanteras, according to Chhattisgarh cultural tradition. When the new crop is ripe and ready, the villagers create artistic jhalar out of the soft paddy. They thank Goddess Lakshmi for her happiness and prosperity by decorating the houses with them and inviting her. Folklore holds that the Goddess receives her invitation through the birds, who flock to the courtyard and the doorway to gather paddy grains.
