Governor urges youth to take Chhattisgarh folk arts global via digital media

RAIPUR, October 14.

Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka on Wednesday emphasized the need to take the state’s rich folk art traditions to national and international audiences through mobile phones, the internet, and digital media.

Addressing the 70th foundation day celebrations of Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya in Khairagarh as the chief guest, Governor Deka credited the university’s remarkable 70-year journey to the collective contributions of its students, teachers, staff, and everyone associated with the institution. He described the contribution of royal donors Raja Virendra Bahadur Singh and Rani Padmavati, who established the university in memory of their daughter, Princess Indira Singh, as historic.

The Governor observed that music provides mental peace, while dance, painting, and sculpture reflect the history and cultural life of society. Highlighting Chhattisgarh’s traditional art forms, including Pandwani, Panthi, Raut Nacha, Suwa Nacha, Karma, and the tribal dance traditions of Bastar, he stressed the importance of expanding their reach through digital platforms.

He urged students to combine their talent with patience, regular practice, and dedication to achieve success in the field of art. He also highlighted the opportunities for connecting art with livelihoods and entrepreneurship, encouraging young artists to explore ways to turn their skills into sustainable sources of income.

Local MP Santosh Pandey said the land donated by the royal family for the university was unique and exemplary. He noted that donating land has become increasingly difficult in contemporary times, yet the royal family established a visionary institution that brought national and international recognition to Khairagarh.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Lovely Sharma delivered the welcome address, while in-charge Registrar R. Venkata Ramana Gude proposed the vote of thanks.

Princess Shatakshi Singh, MP representative Bhagwat Sharan Singh, district administration officials, public representatives, university faculty members, students, and citizens attended the ceremony.
