RAIPUR, October 14.
Indian Railways has successfully completed a high-speed trial of a newly built 16-coach Vande Bharat Chair Car trainset, achieving a maximum speed of 180 kmph in the Kota division of West Central Railway. The trial was conducted on the Mathura–Nagda section under the supervision of the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS).
Manufactured by the Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala, the trainset is equipped with an advanced Alstom propulsion system. The trial assessed several critical performance parameters, including track stability, ride quality, dynamic behaviour and safety standards at elevated speeds.

Key Trial Details
- Trainset: 16-coach Vande Bharat Chair Car
- Manufacturer: Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala
- Propulsion System: Alstom
- Maximum Tested Speed: 180 kmph
- Proposed Operational Speed: 160 kmph
- Trial Section: Mathura–Nagda section, Kota division
- Supervising Authority: Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS)
Safety and Performance Assessment
During the trial run, the Oscillation Monitoring System (OMS) recorded real-time data to analyse the trainset’s dynamic response at high speeds. These measurements help railway experts evaluate the train’s performance against established safety and operational benchmarks.
Before the statutory inspection, the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) issued the Final Speed Certificate, permitting operations at speeds of up to 160 kmph.
The CCRS clearance is the final statutory requirement for commercial deployment. Successful completion of the trial marks another step towards strengthening India’s high-speed rail capabilities and expanding the operational potential of the Vande Bharat train network.
