Raipur
Raipur police have taken accused Bharat Mangnani into custody after he surrendered before a local court on Tuesday following continuous raids at his suspected hideouts. Mangnani was on the run after allegedly running his car over Paramjeet Ranganhi and killing him in the Amanaka police station area on 14 August 2026.
According to police sources, the victim had been in marriage talks with a woman named Shikha Sahu. On 14 August, Sahu arrived near Tatibandh Gurdwara in a white Volkswagen car driven by her friend Mangnani. A dispute broke out between Mangnani and Ranganhi during their meeting.
Witness statements indicate that an angry Mangnani deliberately drove his car at high speed into Ranganhi with the intention to kill him. Ranganhi suffered severe injuries and heavy bleeding in the attack. While bystanders rushed the injured man to a nearby hospital, doctors declared him brought dead. Mangnani fled the scene in his vehicle immediately after the incident.
Based on the complainant’s statement, Amanaka police registered Crime No. 264/2026 under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated an investigation.
Police teams used technical surveillance and raided multiple locations to trace the fleeing suspect. Mounting police pressure forced Mangnani to reach the court premises on 18 August 2026 and turn himself in.
Following his formal arrest, the court remanded the accused to police custody. Officers are interrogating Mangnani to gather further details and proceed with legal action based on available evidence.
