Policeman’s daughter injured in Balod acid attack, shifted to Raipur

RAIPUR: A 22-year-old woman, the daughter of a policeman, suffered severe burn injuries after an unidentified assailant threw acid on her in Chhattisgarh’s Balod district on Monday afternoon.
The woman, an MA graduate preparing for competitive exams, was returning home from Amapara library. The assailant targeted her near Swami Atmanand School in Sinchai Colony under Balod police station limits.
The acid struck the right side of her body, inflicting serious burns on her face, eye, and torso. Bystanders rushed her to Balod district hospital after hearing her cries. Doctors referred her to a medical facility in Raipur as her condition was critical.
Senior police officers, including the superintendent of police and the additional superintendent of police, inspected the crime scene and cordoned off the area. Investigating officers recovered burnt clothing from the site and summoned a forensic team to analyse the chemical agent used in the attack.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailant fled on foot towards Amapara canal. Police have deployed multiple teams to trace and arrest the accused and establish the motive behind the assault.
