Juvenile among six held for armed robberies in Raipur

Raipur: The Khamtarai Police have arrested six accused, including a juvenile, for their alleged involvement in two separate armed robbery cases carried out at knife and axe point in Raipur. Police recovered three stolen mobile phones, cash, and the sharp axe used in the crimes. Legal action has also been initiated against a person who allegedly purchased the stolen mobile phones.

Two Armed Robberies Solved

The operation was carried out under the direction of Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Zone) Mayank Gurjar, with guidance from Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Akash Markam and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Urla) Purnima Lama. The arrests were made by a team led by Khamtarai Police Station In-charge Inspector Jitendra Jaiswal.

According to police, the first robbery took place near the DRM Office at around 1:40 am on June 20, 2026. The accused allegedly intercepted a motorcyclist and, threatening him with a sharp axe, robbed him of a Realme smartphone and ₹1,800 in cash.

The second incident occurred near the Waltair Line at around 12:30 am on July 6, 2026. The suspects allegedly stopped an Activa rider and a heavy vehicle driver at knife-point, fleeing with two mobile phones and ₹1,750 in cash. Cases were registered at Khamtarai Police Station, and an investigation was launched.

CCTV Footage and Technical Evidence Led to Arrests

During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage, relied on field intelligence, and analysed technical evidence to identify the suspects. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to their involvement in both robberies.

Police recovered three stolen mobile phones, cash, and the sharp axe used in the crimes. The total value of the seized property is estimated at ₹54,998.

Action Against Buyer of Stolen Property

Police have also booked the person who allegedly purchased the stolen mobile phones under Sections 317(2) and 317(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Additional charges under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act have also been invoked.

Accused Identified

The arrested accused have been identified as Jayraj Tandi (20), Karan Nayak (18), Dinesh Sona (23), Krishna alias Arjun alias Babu (19), and Bablu Mahanand (34), all residents of the Khamtarai police station area in Raipur district. The identity of the juvenile has been withheld in accordance with legal provisions.
