Woman shot by two unidentified assailants in broad daylight in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti

Raipur: A 25-year-old woman was critically injured after two unidentified assailants allegedly shot her in broad daylight in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district on Friday. The attackers fled the spot immediately after the incident, prompting a massive police search.

The incident took place around 11 am under the Sakti police station limits. The victim, identified as Purnima Chauhan, sustained a gunshot injury after she was allegedly targeted by two men and collapsed at the scene.

Hearing the gunshot, family members rushed out of the house, but the assailants had already escaped. Police were alerted through the emergency 112 service, following which a team reached the spot and shifted the injured woman to the district government hospital. She is undergoing treatment, and doctors said her condition is being closely monitored.

Senior police officers visited the crime scene and launched an investigation. A forensic team collected evidence, while investigators questioned local residents and examined CCTV footage and other leads to identify the attackers. Multiple police teams have been constituted to trace the absconding accused.

Police said the motive behind the attack is yet to be established and that all possible angles, including personal enmity and other potential motives, are being investigated.

The brazen daylight shooting has created panic among local residents and raised concerns over law and order in the district.
