Raipur

A woman was killed and 11 others were injured after being struck by lightning during a village fair (jatra) in the Chandenar area of Dantewada district on Tuesday evening. The injured individuals have been admitted to the district hospital for treatment.

Strong winds, thunderstorms, and heavy rain hit several parts of the state on Tuesday evening. In Korba, the squall uprooted trees, broke branches, and blew away banners and hoardings, disrupting vehicular movement and causing inconvenience to residents.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the current weather pattern will persist across Chhattisgarh for the next five days. The state is expected to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and light to moderate rainfall, with wind speeds reaching 50 to 60 kmph in isolated pockets.

While maximum temperatures are expected to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours, no major change in temperature is predicted after that.

Over the past 24 hours, temperatures across the state remained stable. Rajnandgaon recorded the highest maximum temperature at 41 degrees Celsius, while Pendra Road recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 23.6 degrees Celsius. Sukma district received 2 cm of rainfall during this period.

The capital city of Raipur is expected to see partly cloudy skies today, with a forecast of dust storms, thunderstorms, and light rain. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Raipur are likely to hover around 41 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Weather officials stated that day temperatures will remain high, but sudden weather changes, including high-velocity winds and lightning, are likely in the evenings.

The meteorology department has advised farmers to take precautions to protect harvested crops kept in the open. Citizens have also been cautioned to stay away from trees, hoardings, and power lines during strong winds.
