Employees Demand Work-From-Home in Government Offices Amid Possible Fuel Crisis

Raipur: Citing the prevailing global situation and concerns over a possible fuel crisis, the Chhattisgarh Employees-Officers Federation has urged the state government to introduce a work-from-home system in government offices.
In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain on Thursday, the federation stated that ongoing war-like conditions and international tensions across the world could affect the availability and prices of petrol and diesel. It said that fuel conservation and the judicious use of resources have become essential under the current circumstances.
The memorandum also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly emphasised energy conservation and reducing unnecessary travel, calling such measures timely and necessary.
The federation pointed out that the state government has already implemented e-office and paperless working systems in various departments, making a large portion of administrative work possible online. In view of this, it suggested that introducing work-from-home arrangements, either in phases or as required, would be practical and in the public interest.
The federation further noted that a large number of government employees commute daily to Nava Raipur and other government offices using private and official vehicles. Implementing work-from-home could help save fuel while also reducing traffic congestion and pollution.
The memorandum was submitted on behalf of the federation by Kamal Verma, state coordinator and state president of the Chhattisgarh Gazetted Officers’ Association.
