Sakti Vedanta Plant Blast Update: Death Toll Rises to 10, Over Two Dozen Injured, Many Critical; CM Orders Probe

A devastating boiler explosion at the Vedanta power plant in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district has claimed 10 lives so far, marking one of the deadliest industrial accidents in the region in recent times. More than two dozen workers have been injured, several of them critically, raising fears that the death toll may rise further.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon around 2 PM at the plant located in Singhitrai under Dabhra police station limits. According to initial reports, a boiler tube ruptured during routine operations, triggering a massive explosion that led to chaos across the plant premises.

Emergency response teams, including police, district administration, and fire services, rushed to the site immediately after the blast. Rescue operations were launched on a war footing, and injured workers were shifted to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment. Many victims sustained severe burn injuries.

The explosion caused panic among workers, with scenes of chaos and distress as evacuation and relief efforts were carried out. Authorities have cordoned off the area and initiated a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.


Chief Minister Expresses Grief, Orders Probe

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.

He assured that a thorough and impartial investigation will be conducted and directed officials to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured. The Chief Minister also emphasized strict action against any negligence found in safety measures.


Opposition Demands Accountability

Leader of Opposition Charan Das Mahant also expressed serious concern over the incident. He held discussions with the Sakti District Collector and Superintendent of Police to assess the situation.

Mahant demanded a comprehensive inquiry into the blast and stressed that industrial safety standards must be strictly enforced to prevent such tragedies. He also urged authorities to provide all necessary assistance and support to the affected families.
