Raipur: A woman constable was found hanging in her government quarters in the Azad Chowk police station area of Raipur on Saturday evening, triggering shock and grief within the police department.
According to initial information, the incident occurred around 8:30 pm when the constable, identified as Pooja Kushwaha, was alone at her residence in the police colony. She is suspected to have taken the extreme step during that time.
On receiving information, Azad Chowk police along with senior officers rushed to the spot and secured the scene. A preliminary investigation has been initiated.
Additional DCP Rahul Dev Sharma said that prima facie the case appears to be a suicide. However, the exact cause behind the incident will be ascertained only after a detailed investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and a forensic team has been called in to collect evidence from the spot.
Pooja Kushwaha was posted in the police department and resided in the police colony. The incident has left fellow personnel in the colony in a state of shock.
Police officials said all angles are being probed. Investigators are examining her personal and family background and questioning colleagues and relatives to determine the circumstances leading to her death.
The Additional DCP said further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report and technical evidence. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.
