Police hold community outreach programme in Bedre; former Maoists urge cadres to join mainstream

Raipur: Bijapur district police organised a community policing and public awareness programme in Kerpe village under Bedre police station limits on 26 March 2026. Over 400 villagers from Kerpe, Marimadgu, Peddagundapur, Madepur, and Odari participated in the event aimed at bridging the gap between the administration and local communities.

Brij Kishore Yadav, Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Kutru, briefed the gathering on various government welfare schemes. He encouraged residents to prioritise children’s education and seek institutional healthcare.

Appeal to active cadres

A significant highlight of the event involved surrendered Maoists sharing their experiences of transitioning to civilian life. They appealed to active cadres still in the forests to shun violence and return to their families.

“Life in the forests is one of hardship and pain. It serves neither personal growth nor the welfare of society,” a former operative said, urging colleagues to embrace changing times and lead a peaceful life. Police officials also advised those who have already joined the mainstream to remain distanced from unlawful activities and focus on building their futures.

Welfare distribution and healthcare

As part of the civic action initiative, the police distributed essential supplies to needy villagers. The distribution included:

  • Educational kits: Stationery and books for school-going children
  • Sports equipment: Gear for local youth to encourage physical activity
  • Daily essentials: Household items for various families

A mobile medical unit from the Community Health Centre (CHC) Kutru set up a health camp at the venue. Doctors and paramedics provided check-ups and medicines to villagers lacking access to hospital facilities.

The event concluded with several villagers taking an informal pledge to support developmental works in the region and ensure regular schooling for their children, promoting peace and law and order.
