Raipur – Security forces established a new security and public utility camp at Bade Gundem village in the Farasgarh police station limits on 12 March. The camp aims to strengthen anti-Maoist operations and accelerate development in remote areas of Chhattisgarh.
A joint team, comprising the District Reserve Guard (DRG), District Force, and the 12th Battalion of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF), successfully set up the base despite difficult terrain and geographical challenges. This is the 37th security camp established in the district since 2024.
The camp marks a significant step in connecting Bhopalpatnam to Farasgarh. It will facilitate the construction of roads and bridges in the remote villages of the National Park area, improving administrative reach and transport.
Under the state government’s ‘Niyad Nellanar’ (Your Good Village) scheme, the facility will ensure that local residents gain access to essential services including:
- Healthcare and drinking water
- Primary schools and electricity
- Public Distribution System (PDS) shops
- Mobile connectivity
Bastar Range Inspector General of Police P. Sundarraj supervised the operation. Bijapur Superintendent of Police Dr Jitendra Kumar Yadav, Additional SP (Ops) Ravindra Kumar Meena, and other senior officers were present during the inauguration of the camp.
Police officials stated that the continuous expansion of security coverage has yielded results in the district since 2024. During this period, 234 Maoists were killed, 1,184 were arrested, and 955 cadres surrendered to join the mainstream.
The establishment of the Bade Gundem camp is expected to curb Maoist movement in the sector and foster a safe environment for the villagers.
