Three Naxalites killed, C-60 jawan martyred in Gadchiroli encounter

Raipur
Three Naxalites were killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in the dense forests of Abujhmad along the Maharashtra–Chhattisgarh border on Friday. A C-60 commando, who sustained critical injuries during the gunfight, succumbed while undergoing treatment.
The operation, led by the specialised anti-Naxal unit of the Maharashtra Police, began on Tuesday night following intelligence inputs regarding the presence of Maoist Company No. 10 cadres.
Security forces engaged the Naxalites in the Bhamragad tehsil area. During the exchange of fire, C-60 Constable Deepak Chinna Madavi (38) was hit. He was airlifted from the remote forest area on Friday morning and rushed to the Bhamragad Sub-District Hospital, where he passed away. Another jawan, Joga Madavi, also sustained bullet injuries but is reported to be out of danger.
Police recovered the bodies of three Naxalites, including one woman, from the site. An AK-47 rifle and a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) were seized during the search operation. The identities of the deceased Naxalites are yet to be established.
The encounter follows the neutralisation of high-ranking Naxalite commander Udham Singh in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on 5 February. Singh, a Divisional Committee Member (DVCM) carrying a reward of ₹8 lakh, was reportedly involved in several major attacks, including the 2021 Tekulgudem ambush.
