Chhattisgarh govt scraps two rounds of PG medical counselling, to restart process under revised rules

Raipur
The Chhattisgarh government has announced that the Postgraduate (PG) medical counselling process in the state will be restarted in accordance with revised admission rules, following the latest clarification issued by the Chhattisgarh High Court in compliance with Supreme Court directions.
In an official statement, the Medical Education Department said that the state had amended the Chhattisgarh Postgraduate Admission Rules on December 1, 2025, in compliance with the final judgment delivered by the Chhattisgarh High Court, Bilaspur, on November 20, 2025, in the case of Samriddhi Dubey and Others vs State of Chhattisgarh. Based on these amended rules, the PG counselling process had been initiated.
However, keeping in view the interests of Chhattisgarh students, the state government subsequently challenged the High Court’s decision by filing a Special Leave Petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court. The apex court, while examining the matter, directed the state government to move an appropriate application and seek clarification from the High Court, specifically with regard to paragraph 21 of its November 20 order.
Accordingly, the state government approached the High Court through Miscellaneous Civil Case No. MCC 40/2026. In its final order dated January 16, 2026, the High Court clarified that the observation in paragraph 21 — which suggested that no distinction could be made between institutional and non-institutional candidates through admission rules — stood deleted. The court further directed the State Counselling Committee to conduct counselling by prescribing specific percentages for institutional and non-institutional candidates, in line with the earlier order passed in the Tanvi Bahel case.
In compliance with the High Court’s latest directions, the state government issued amended Chhattisgarh Postgraduate Admission Rules on January 22, 2026. In light of the revised rules and prioritising the interests of state students, the government has decided to cancel the two rounds of PG counselling already conducted and restart the counselling process afresh as per the amended provisions.
The Medical Education Department assured that the counselling process will be conducted in a fully transparent and fair manner, strictly in accordance with the orders of the courts and the guidelines issued by the Government of India. The decision, the department said, has been taken to safeguard the interests of Chhattisgarh students and ensure equal opportunity.
The state government has appealed to all candidates to regularly check the official website and forthcoming notifications for updated rules and details of the revised counselling schedule.
