Chhattisgarh’s Kanger Valley National Park, known for its biodiversity and limestone formations, has recorded a new natural find titled the ‘Green Cave’. Located within the Kotumsar complex in compartment number 85 in Bastar, this limestone and shale structure is expected to become a major attraction for researchers and tourists.
The state government has directed officials to prioritise the conservation of such natural heritage sites.
Forest and Climate Change Minister Kedar Kashyap stated that the inclusion of the Green Cave on the tourism map will create local employment and boost regional development. The forest department plans to open the site to the public after completing necessary safety and infrastructure arrangements.
The cave derives its name from the layers of green microbial growth found on the stalactites hanging from the ceiling and walls. Visitors must navigate a path over large boulders to reach the entrance. Inside, the cave opens into a massive chamber featuring shimmering stalactites and flow-stone formations created by mineral-rich water over centuries.
The forest department is currently monitoring the site for security. Work on access paths and basic tourist facilities is underway under the guidance of the forest department.
