12 naxalites, including Central Committee Member, surrender in Chhattisgarh

Raipur

The Communist Party of India (Maoist) leader and Central Committee Member (CCM), Ramdher Majji, along with 11 associates, surrendered to the police on Monday in Kumhi village, under the Bakarkatta police station limit in Khairagarh. The group was active in the North Bastar Division.

The naxalites handed over a significant cache of weapons to the police. Ramdher Majji surrendered with an AK-47 rifle.

Four Divisional Committee Member (DVCM) rank naxalites — Chandu Usendi, Lalita, Janaki, and Prem — were among those who surrendered. Two of them were in possession of AK-47 and INSAS rifles.

Area Committee Member (ACM) level operatives Ramsingh Dada and Sukesh Pottem also laid down their arms. Additionally, Party Member (PM) level members Lakshmi, Sheela, Yogita, Kavita, and Sagar surrendered.

The police seized several weapons from the group, including AK-47, INSAS, SLR, .303, and .30 Carbine rifles.

All 12 naxalites were active in the MMC (Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh) Special Zonal Committee, which had a deep presence across six districts in the three states. The police are currently interrogating all the naxalites.

Surrender of 10 naxalites in Madhya Pradesh

Just a day earlier, on Sunday, 10 naxalites had surrendered in the Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh, submitting their weapons before Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.

This group included Surendra alias Kabir, a hardcore naxalite with a bounty of ₹62 lakh. The 10 naxalites—four women and six men—carried a combined reward of ₹2.36 crore across Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra. They surrendered two AK-47, two INSAS rifles, one SLR, two SSR, seven BGL shells, and four walkie-talkies.

Contact through forest staff

Forest staff member Gulab Uike and local villagers played a crucial role in facilitating the surrender. Uike reported that the naxalites initiated contact themselves and were brought to Balaghat via vehicle. The lack of cooperation from the villagers reportedly motivated the naxalites to prioritise surrendering.
